anxiety treatment optionsWhat medications are used to treat anxiety? What are treatment options for anxiety?

I'm 23 years old and up until last month I never dealt with anxiety. But one night I woke up and had this bad feeling that radiated from my core (between my stomach and chest). It wasn't a physical pain and I didn't feel like it coincided with any thing on my mind. It was a bad bad unsettling feeling that wanted to go away. It was hard to even describe it. Ever since that night I have been getting that feeling at night when I'm sleeping and during the day time as well.

I talked with a bunch of people about it and most people told me it sound like anxiety. I usually got treatment for depression and ADD. Right now I take Welbutrin and concerta.

What medications are usually prescribed for anxiety? I do not want to start taking a ton of meds for everything wrong I have going on. What are other treatment options?
Anxiety tends to go with depression sometimes. there are anti-anxiety agents/medications that are tranquilizers--including xanax, ativan, klonipin, serax, tranxene, buspar, etc.
They tend to work within a half hour of taking them. Some people use them to help with sleep.

besides medication, there is meditation, imagery, deep breathing, relaxation techniques you could try.
ChiMOM thanks your help. anxiety treatment options

Welbutrin is usually precribed for drepression and sometims to quit smoking. Some well known Anit-anxiety meds are Xanax, Valuim, Ativan, and Klonopin.
There are a ton of different medications. They might give you an antidepressant like Zoloft or Prozac to take every day or something like Ativan or Xanax to take when you are getting anxious or having a panic attack, or both. You might have to try several to find one that works. My mom had to try like ten before she found one that didn't make her sleep all day.
I would suggest you ask your doctor for a low dose of klonopin. I've been treated for anziety for many years now and have tried em all. Klonopin definitely helps the most in my experience. You can take it at night before going to bed to avoid waking up with anxiety, and during the day if you feel anxiety coming on you can take it and prevent the anxiety attack from coming.

It isnt a drug that needs to be taken daily which is nice, you can just take one when needed.
You need to get checked out by your GP/Doctor just to be on the safe side. I would also suggest you ask to be assessed by a mental health professional so a clear diagnosis can be made and the most appropriate treatment ofanxiety treatment optionsfered.
I am no medic but I do know that some of the SSRI anti depressant can help with both anxiety and depression.
You should also check the potential side effects of any medications you are on now and may consider trying in the future.
There is an excellent site here in the UK called This site was set up by the government a few years ago. It provides patients and clinicians with objective, impartial, evidence based recommendations for a wide range of mental and physical health problems. It is very informative and will detail the most suitable treatments for your condition including advice regarding medication regimes.
There is a wealth of information available on the internet but do not pay for advice when it is freely available.
If you do wish to consider therapy in the future then a course of cognitive behavioural therapy combined with a suitable anti depressant had the greatest evidence base in terms of potential for a good, sustained recovery.
There is a book called Mind Over Mood by Christine Padesky. This is a practical, self help book based on the principles of Cognitive behavioural therapy. Search the book out and you will find good feedback I'm sure.
Good luck
